More Interesting Russians
Another pair of old Vostoks. The upper one is very unusual. It is a Komandirskie with a chrome plated brass case and a 31 jewel automatic movement. It is in NOS condition and arrived in its original box with the stock strap (which I swapped out for the nylon band you see). What makes it so unusual is the dial graphic. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. Given the historic tension that existed between Israel and the Soviet client states of the Middle-East, the existence of this model strikes me as remarkable.
The watch on the bottom is a Soviet built Amphibia with a stainless steel case. Unlike most of these diver watches, this one was equipped with a 17 jewel Vostok 2409 hand-wound movement and an iron anti-magnetic shield inside the case over the movement. It too is in NOS condition and is pictured on a period Soviet made stainless steel bracelet.

I've been considering a Vostok Europe. What are your thoughts on their movement quality compared to a japanese movement such as Miyota?
I would put the 2416B and its Vostok Europe derivatives in the same league as a Miyota 8200 series movement. Both are very tough automatics that can be hand wound but not hacked. I have several 2416B powered Vostoks and none has ever failed. That being said, I also have a Miyota powered Citizen diver that is very well done too.
Ed,
That first Vostok pictured also has a stainless steel case (not chromed) - you can tell by the style of the crown. It's always a dead give away for the older Vostoks. I have 10 different ones myself - great watches!

I had assumed that myself. All of the Vostoks I have with that crown are stainless too. Not this one though. When I opened the case back, the threads were clearly brass. A very strange build indeed. Otherwise, an ordinary 2416b though. It's almost like the factory combined the case on the round cased Komandirskie with the Amphibia crown.
i have an Komandirski "Tank" didn't have problems till now are fine watches
how beautiful watches, I would like to have the first watch that is in the first picture because my favorite color is blue!
